The Top 10 Most Common Plastic Surgeries and What Evansville Residents Should Know

The Top 10 Most Common Plastic Surgeries and What Evansville Residents Should KnowPlastic surgery is becoming more and more popular in the United States. In fact, almost two million plastic surgery procedures are performed each year. Those numbers are rising quickly, with a 98% increase in the total number of plastic surgeries over the last decade.

As the numbers boom, we are also seeing significant changes. Women are no longer the only people having plastic surgery – men account for more than 150,000 plastic surgeries per year. Minorities are now also more likely to have cosmetic surgery – almost a quarter of plastic surgery patients report that they are non-Caucasian.

Here is a list of the top 10 most common plastic surgeries.

1. Liposuction

Some people have excess fat deposits that simply will not go away, even with diet and exercise. Liposuction is performed to permanently remove fat cells from certain areas of the body, like the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. The fat cells are removed from the body by using a suctioning technique that is performed with a very thin tube known as a cannula. After liposuction, the average patient is able to return to work in a week or two, depending on the areas that have been treated.

2. Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is the surgical enlargement of a woman’s breasts. This procedure has become extremely popular in the United States where more than 350,000 of these procedures are done each year. Silicone or saline implants are added to increase the size of the breasts, alter their shape, or change the way in which they protrude from the body.

3. Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Eyelid surgery can be done for cosmetic reasons or to improve vision in patients where the eyelids are obstructing vision. Wrinkling or sagging skin around the eyes can make us look older. A blepharoplasty procedure is performed to improve the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids, or to repair certain problems with the eyelids.

4. Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

The tummy tuck is growing in popularity among women who have excess skin in the abdomen area as the result of pregnancy or significant weight loss. During this procedure, excess fat and skin in the abdominal area are trimmed and tightened. Following a tummy tuck, most patients are able to resume normal activities in two to three weeks.

5. Breast Reduction

If you suffer from very heavy or overly large breasts you may experience chronic back pain and poor posture. A breast reduction surgery will reduce the size and weight of your breasts and relieve issues with back pain and posture.

6. Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Also called a nose job, rhinoplasty is a procedure that reshapes the nose, bringing it into balance with the rest of the face. The surgeon may reduce the overall size of the nose or refine areas of the nose. A rhinoplasty may also correct damage due to injury. Patients will experience bruising after the surgery and most will return to work in about 10 days.

7. Rhytidectomy (Facelift)

If you are experiencing wrinkles and sagging due to aging, a facelift may be the solution for you. This procedure firms and tightens the skin, smoothing deep lines and minimizing sagging for a more youthful appearance. A facelift can take years off your appearance.

8. Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that repositions the breasts for a perkier appearance. This is a popular procedure for women whose breasts have been affected by pregnancy or significant weight loss. Some women opt to have breast implants along with a breast lift.

9. Forehead Lift

This procedure pulls the skin of the forehead tighter to remove wrinkles and smooth creases. The eyebrows are also raised during a forehead lift for a more youthful appearance.

10. Gynecomastia Treatment

Gynecomastia is a condition that only affects men. This surgical procedure reduces excessive amounts of male breast tissue and is performed more than 20,000 times each year. During adolescence, about 40 percent of boys experience enlarged breasts, but this condition often goes away with time. If the condition persists to adulthood, this procedure can provide a permanent solution.
