When it comes your body, sometimes diet and exercise are simply not enough to address those stubborn pockets of body fat. If you have excess fat on your abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, buttocks, chest or back, liposuction may be the perfect solution for you. Liposuction is not a replacement for diet and exercise, but it is a viable method to target those pesky pockets of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
Liposuction can give you a more toned body, but it isn’t for everyone. If you want to lose weight, have significant excess skin, want to significantly recontour your body, or if you want to remove cellulite, liposuction is not the answer.
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the body via a suctioning technique performed with the use of a very thin tube known as a cannula. The body cannot grow new fat cells, which means that liposuction provides near permanent results.
Here are the different types of liposuction.
Laser liposuction uses a laser to more precisely target fat cells. Since laser lipo eliminates only fat cells and does not damage surrounding healthy tissue, patients can expect a much shorter recovery time with substantially less discomfort. With the laser liposuction procedure, low-energy waves liquefy targeted areas of fat, which are then removed through a tiny cannula.
Instead of using a laser to eliminate fat cells, ultrasound liposuction liquefies fat with ultrasound technology. This is a relatively new technology designed to make stubborn pockets of fat easier to target and remove. This procedure is ideal for removing fat from the sides, back and upper abdomen.
Like other liposuction techniques, power-assisted liposuction permanently removes stubborn pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise – but it delivers better results than traditional liposuction. Power-assisted liposuction uses a specialized cannula that vibrates rapidly to break up the fat tissue. The oscillating action of the cannula means that less manual work is required. This liposuction procedure boasts increased precision, as well as less bruising for patients. In addition, the power-assisted liposuction procedure is about 30% faster than traditional liposuction.
