What Are Freckles?
Freckles are a type of hyperpigmentation that occur naturally in the skin over time. As the skin ages, it can collect melanin in spots. Freckles most commonly occur on the hands, neck, and face, but may occur anywhere on the body. Broadband light therapy™ (BBL) and Intense Pulsed Light® (IPL) therapy can help separate pockets of hyperpigmentation.
Benefits of Freckles Treatment
Broadband Laser and Intense Pulsed Light treatments can be tailored to your specific needs and skin type. Patients experience results quickly, with results appearing a few days after the treatment. There is a quick recovery time, and smoother, healthier skin is revealed. This also helps the skin to continue to heal itself. Removing areas of hyperpigmentation ensures that the skin does not reproduce this way as it naturally refreshes itself over time. Patients also experience immediate changes in skin texture.
Is Freckles Treatment Right for Me?
BBL™ therapy is appropriate for men and women. Age is not necessarily a consideration when discussing this type of therapy. Dr. Flannagan recommends BBL™ therapy for patients with healthy skin that still has some elasticity. Patients with active skin infections may not be appropriate candidates for BBL therapy. If you are struggling with products that are ineffective or spa treatments leaving you dissatisfied, MedSpa treatments may be right for you. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Flannagan to discuss your options for freckles treatment.
What Is a Freckles Procedure?
For some patients, prescription skin care is enough to achieve the desired results. In some cases, MedSpa treatments may be needed. Patients may choose to have laser resurfacing completed, such as Broadband Laser™ (BBL) or Intense Pulse Light® (IPL) laser treatments. This laser treatment uses an intra-epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The skin is heated using broad-spectrum light and photo-thermal energy which stimulates collagen production. Targeting areas of excessive pigmentation, the damaged skin hardens and falls off, revealing younger, firmer skin. Pigmented lesions can be removed using either spot treatments or by treating larger areas in one session.
Treatments can usually be spaced three to four weeks apart, and the number of treatment sessions required will vary depending on the extent of the treatment area.
How Long Is the Recovery After Broadband Laser or Intense Pulsed Light Therapy?
There is little to no downtime after freckles treatment. Most patients are able to resume their regular schedule the same day. Be sure to keep your skin well protected from the sun and follow all aftercare instructions. Dr. Flannagan will advise you on what skin care products to use to achieve optimal results following your treatment.
How Much Does Freckles Treatment Cost?
The cost for your procedure will vary depending on the extent of the treatment and the number of sessions required. Some patients may need follow-up treatments more frequently than others. This will also impact the cost of your treatment. In most cases, plastic surgery treatments are not covered by insurance. The staff at Flannagan Plastic Surgery will ensure all of your questions about the financing of your treatments are answered. Most of our patients use a combination of the following to pay for their procedures:
- Personal or cashier’s checks
- American Express
- CareCredit® Financing
